National Right to Life Endorses Thom Tillis

In its press release of April 7, 2014, National Right to Life stated the following about its endorsement of Thom Tillis:

“National Right to Life, the nation’s oldest and largest pro-life
organization, today endorsed North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis in both the Republican primary and general elections for the U.S. Senate. In issuing the endorsement, National Right to Life praised Rep. Tillis’ outstanding pro-life leadership as Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives.“Thom Tillis has been an outspoken leader in the fight to protect innocent human
life in North Carolina, and he is the only candidate with a proven record of
leadership who can defeat pro-abortion Sen. Kay Hagan this fall,” said Carol
Tobias, president of National Right to Life.

Under his leadership as Speaker of the North Carolina House of Representatives, the legislature passed a number of measures protecting unborn children and their mothers including:

• Women’s Right to Know Act (Speaker Tillis led the effort to override Governor Perdue’s veto of the measure)
• Ethen’s Law recognizing unborn children as victims of violent crime
• Prohibiting North Carolina taxpayer dollars from being used to pay for abortion or to pay for insurance coverage for abortion
• Health & Safety Law – a 2013 omnibus pro-life bill that included language
extending conscience protections to heealth care providers who oppose abortion,
opting North Carolina out of abortion coverage in the federal health care
exchange, prohibiting sex-selection abortions, prohibiting abortion from being covered in city and county health care plans, banning web-cam abortions, and issuing regulations of abortion clinics.

In contrast, since being elected to the U.S. Senate, Kay Hagan voted for the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” – better known as Obamacare – which provides government funding for insurance plans that pay for abortion-on-demand, and will lead to the rationing of lifesaving medical treatments. Earlier this year, Hagan votealth care providers who oppose abortion,
opting North Carolina out of abortion coverage in the federal health care
exchange, prohibiting sex-selection abortions, prohibiting abortion from being covered in city and county health care plans, banning web-cam abortions, and issuing regulations of abortion clinics.

In contrast, since being elected to the U.S. Senate, Kay Hagan voted for the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” – better known as Obamacare – which provides government funding for insurance plans that pay for abortion-on-demand, and will lead to the rationing of lifesaving medical treatments. Earlier this year, Hagan voted  against a measure that would have protected the religious liberties of employers by protecting them from being forced to purchase health plans that cover drugs and procedures to
which they have religious or moral objections.
